Kisses on the Bottom ( English kisses at the end [analogously]) is the 16th solo album by Paul McCartney . At the same time, including the Wings albums, The Fireman albums, the classic albums, the live albums and compilation albums, it is Paul McCartney's 44th album after the Beatles split up . It was released on February 6, 2012 in the UK and on February 7, 2012 in the US. The two digital albums iTunes Live from the Capitol Studios and Kisses on the Bottom - Complete Kisses are directly related to the album Kisses on the Bottom .

Emergence

Since his 2008 studio album Electric Arguments with The Fireman , the song I'm in Love Again sung by Paul McCartney appeared on the Klaus Voormann album A Sideman's Journey in July 2009 . In June and July 2009 Paul McCartney recorded the song (I Want To) Come Home for the movie Everybody's Fine in his Hog Hill Studio . Promotional CDs were made in the UK and USA in late 2009. The song was released as a download single in February 2010 . In the fall of 2009, McCartney recorded the song Meat Free Monday for a vegetarian campaign. Paul McCartney made the song available as a free download from the website of the same name. In March 2011 appeared on the CD Rare Bird Alert by Steve Martin , sung by Paul McCartney song and the Steep Canyon Rangers Best Love . In June 2011 the compilation album Rave On , which includes reinterpretations of Buddy Holly songs, was released. Paul McCartney contributed the song It's so Easy , which was also released as a promotional single CD with two versions. In October 2011, an acoustic live version of Get Back was released on the live compilation album Bridge School Concerts-25th Anniversary Edition .

In 2010 Paul McCartney decided to record an album with so-called standards of the 1920s and 1930s; so he came into contact with Tommy LiPuma , who was visiting McCartney in March 2010. During this time, LiPuma and McCartney selected songs that could be considered for the album. Paul McCartney's wish was to select songs that were popular in his parents' time. Tommy LiPuma hired the arrangers and studio musicians, including Diana Krall .

Paul McCartney only played acoustic guitar on Get Yourself Another Fool and The Inch Worm while recording . The songs were recorded live and the musicians were able to bring their musical ideas into the recording process during the recording.

Probably in April 2011 the first recordings took place in Capitol Studios in Hollywood for the following songs: It's Only a Paper Moon , More I Cannot Wish You , The Glory of Love , We Three (My Echo, My Shadow and Me) , My Very Good Friend the Milkman , The Inch Worm , Only Our Hearts , Baby's Request, and My One and Only Love . Further work for the album then took place, probably in May 2011, at Avatar Studios in New York , where the songs I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter , Home (When Shadows Fall) , Ac-Cent-Tchu -Ate the Positive , My Valentine , Always , Bye Bye Blackbird and Get Yourself Another Fool . The songs were orchestrated in Abbey Road Studios by members of the London Symphony Orchestra . The album was mixed at Hog Hill Studios. It is not documented when this work took place.

On October 9, 2011, Paul McCartney married his partner Nancy Shevell.

Kisses on the Bottom received the Grammy Award in 2013 in the “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album” category.

Kisses on the Bottom was commercially successful in Germany (tenth top ten album), in Great Britain (twenty-fifth top ten album) and in the USA (eighteenth top ten album).

The album was also released in Europe as a fourteen-track double vinyl album.

Cover design and title

The cover was designed by Matthew Cooper, the cover concept comes from Johnathan Schofield. The photographs of the CD inlay are by Mary McCartney . The title Kisses on the Bottom comes from the song I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter from the line of text: “Lotta kisses on the bottom, I'll be glad I got 'em”. A 22-page illustrated booklet is enclosed with the CD, containing information about the album and the songs. The CD version has a cardboard cover that can be opened.

Kisses on the Bottom - Complete Kisses

The digital album Kisses on the Bottom - Complete Kisses was released on November 26, 2012 in Europe and on November 27, 2012 in the USA exclusively via iTunes. In addition to the deluxe version of the album, it contains another version of the song My Valentine and the song The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) , which was also released as a single in December 2012. The album also contains the thirteen songs recorded live on February 9, 2012 from the Live from the Capitol Studios concert .

  • Paul McCartney contributed three original compositions to the album:
  1. My Valentine is a love song for his wife Nancy, Eric Clapton played acoustic guitar on this song. Another version, arranged by John Mandel, was recorded at Avatar Studios in New York City and released on the download album Kisses on the Bottom - Complete Kisses .
  2. Only Our Hearts is another love song that featured Stevie Wonder playing the harmonica.
  3. Baby's Request is a new recording, the original is on the album Back to the Egg .

Sources mention that there are other previously unreleased songs: Goodnight Princess (new recording, the original is on the album Give My Regards to Broad Street ), Hope and If I Take You Home Tonight . But it cannot be proven that these songs exist. The song If I Take You Home Tonight was re-recorded by Diana Krall for her album Wallflower , which was released in February 2015. In December 2014, the Paul McCartney single Hope for the Future was released , which was titled Hope on the UK promotional CD . It is not clear whether this song is the original or a new recording.

Video publishing

On November 9, 2012 (USA: November 13, 2012) the Blu-ray / DVD Live Kisses was released in a 5.1 mix. This music video is essentially the concert played by Paul McCartney on February 9, 2012 at Capitol Studios in Hollywood . The concert was broadcast live on iTunes and televised in the US in September 2012. The director of the concert video is Jonas Åkerlund.
