Emergence

Paul McCartney at a concert in August 2009

After the release of the album Electric Arguments , Paul McCartney toured North America from July 11 to August 19, 2009 and gave ten concerts, in addition to a seven-song concert in front of the Ed Sullivan Theater for the Late Show with David Letterman . The tour was called "Summer Live '09". The line-up of Paul McCartney's band has been constant since 2002, some of which also appeared on the studio albums Driving Rain , Chaos and Creation in the Backyard and Memory Almost Full . The setlist of Summer Live '09 Tour is essentially identical to the published live album Good Evening New York City with the following exceptions:

Paul McCartney, 2009

On July 17th, 18th and 21st, 2009 Paul McCartney gave three concerts at Citi Field in New York . The stadium is located in the immediate vicinity of Shea Stadium , where the Beatles began their North American tour on August 15, 1965, in front of the then record crowd of 55,600 spectators. On July 16 and 18, 2008, Billy Joel gave two multi-guest concerts at Shea Stadium before it was demolished. One of the invited guests was Paul McCartney, who sang the songs I Saw Her Standing There and Let It Be with Billy Joel . The two songs were released on the album and the DVD The Last Play at Shea on October 21, 2010. In return, Billy Joel was a guest at Paul McCartney on July 17, 2009 and sang the song I Saw Her Standing There with him again .

The songs were mixed by Geoff Emerick and Paul Hicks. As with the live albums Wings over America , Tripping the Live Fantastic , Back in the US and Back in the World , Good Evening New York City was released as a double CD. The order of the songs on the CD corresponds to the sequence during the concerts.

While there are five Beatles songs on the album Wings over America , the number has been increased to 15 on Tripping the Live Fantastic , Back to the US to 19 and Back in the World to 21, and 21 Beatles songs are also on the album Album Good Evening New York City .

One of the Beatles' songs is the George Harrison composition Something , which Paul McCartney played in memory of George Harrison, who died in November 2001. McCartney accompanied himself on a ukulele , a favorite instrument of Harrison. In memory of John Lennon , Paul McCartney played the medley A Day in the Life / Give Peace a Chance and the song Here Today as an homage .

For the first time Paul McCartney played songs from The Fireman: Sing the Changes and Highway . The album was not released as a vinyl long-playing record.

For the song Helter Skelter Paul McCartney 2011 received a Grammy in the category Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance . From December 2nd to 22nd, 2009 a European tour with the name Good Evening Europe Tour with eight concerts followed.
