The live version of the piece can be found on the US versions of the compilation albums All the Best! (1987) and Wingspan: Hits and History (2001). A live version of the song, which includes an additional verse, appeared on the album Concerts for the People of Kampuchea (1981). Music video

An elaborate music video was produced for the song. This video shows a band that appears to consist of twelve people and is called "The Plastic Macs" according to the label on the bass drum , playing Coming Up . A film trick made it possible for Paul McCartney to play ten of these musicians. Linda McCartney played two roles. While most of the characters were purely fictional, Paul McCartney named two real people he played in the video: Hank Marvin (guitarist for The Shadows ) and Ron Mael (keyboards) for Sparks . He also played himself as "Beatles Paul".

The video first aired on May 17, 1980 on the comedy show Saturday Night Live .
