Flaming Pie ( English 'burning pate / cake') is the eleventh solo album by Paul McCartney . At the same time, including the Wings albums, the Fireman albums, the classic albums, the live albums and compilation albums, it is Paul McCartney's 27th album after the Beatles split up . It was released on May 5, 1997 in the UK and May 20, 1997 in the US.
Emergence
Due to numerous other projects, McCartney could not bring out an album since his last main project Off the Ground in 1993 and his subsequent New World Tour , which lasted until December 1993. In particular through his work on the Beatles Anthology in 1994 and early 1995, he became aware of his old qualities and started a new album in 1995, which would later become Flaming Pie and with some songs reminiscent of the music of the Beatles.
On January 28, 1995, Paul McCartney recorded the song Hiroshima Sky Is Always Blue with Yoko Ono , Sean Lennon , Linda McCartney and their four children , which was broadcast on Japanese radio and available on bootlegs . On March 23, 1995, a concert with Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello , Willard White, Michael Pollock, Sally Burgess and other artists followed under the title An Evening with Paul McCartney & Friends , which was broadcast on April 17, 1995 on British radio. On April 21, 1995, a 5 ″ CD single was released from the concert with the title Paul McCartney's A Leaf , the interpreter of the piano piece composed by Paul McCartney was Anya Alexeyev.
The oldest recordings of the album Flaming Pie are from September 1992 and are the songs Calico Skies and Great Day, which were produced by Paul McCartney and George Martin . Further recordings were only made in 1995, but the backing band he had formed for Flowers in the Dirt and the rest of his work in the early 1990s had already broken up. Paul McCartney played some instruments himself and invited some friends and family members such as Ringo Starr and his son James McCartney , who then made his commercial debut , to work on the album further . It was produced by Paul McCartney himself and Jeff Lynne .
In February 1995, recordings were made with Steve Miller , with whom Paul McCartney had recorded the song My Dark Hour in 1969 under the pseudonym Paul Ramon , which had appeared on the Steve Miller album Brave New Word in June 1969. The recordings took place in the studio by Steve Miller in Sun Valley ( Idaho instead). The recordings with Steve Miller were continued in the studio of Paul McCartney in May 1995, so that the songs Young Boy , Broomstick , Used to be Bad and If You Wanna could be completed. The songs (Sweet Home) Country Girl and Soul Boy were not used.
From November 1st to 3rd, 1995 Paul McCartney produced the song Somedays . After this recording, Jeff Lynne became another producer and guest musician and by early December 1995 the songs The Song We Were Singing , The World Tonight and Little Willow were recorded. In February 1996, recordings of the songs Flaming Pie and Souvenir followed . In May 1996 the songs Beautiful Night , Really Love You and Looking For You followed with Ringo Starr's participation. In September 1996 Heaven on Sunday was recorded with James McCartney and the album was mixed.
The name of the album is derived from an article by John Lennon , which he wrote in 1961 for the Liverpool music magazine Mersey Beat .
“Many people ask what are Beatles ? Why Beatles ? Ugh, Beatles , how did the name arrive? So we will tell you. It came in a vision - a man appeared on a flaming pie and said unto them 'From this day on you are Beatles with an A '. 'Thank you, Mister Man', they said, thanking him. "
“A lot of people ask what are the Beatles ? Why Beatles ? Ugh, Beatles , how did the name come about? I want to tell you that. It came in a vision - a man appeared on a burning cake and said down to them, 'From this day forward you are Beatles with an A '. 'Thank you, Mr. Mann', they said thanking him. "
Flaming Pie was released on May 5, 1997. It was Paul McCartney's last studio album on which his wife Linda , who died of breast cancer a year later , played music.
In addition to consistently positive reception from music critics, the album was also a great commercial success, for example it was the first album since Tug of War to reach the top ten on the US Billboard 200 again.
