Really Love You is a song by British pop musician Paul McCartney that appeared on his tenth solo album Flaming Pie in 1997 .

history

Really Love You was created one day after the recording of Beautiful Night during a jam session with McCartney on bass, Ringo Starr , who was involved in the recording of the previous day, on drums and Jeff Lynne on guitar. In this session, three different pieces were created within half an hour, of which Really Love You was most likely to hit the desired sound. The recording was later supplemented with numerous guitar and vocal overdubs .

“Doing Beautiful Night with Ringo wasn't enough. I wanted more fun. So we jammed. "

The song was released on the B-side of the single The World Tonight in May 1997 and on the album Flaming Pie a month later . In June 2005, McCartney released Really Love You in a heavily modified form for the Twin Freaks project .

style

Really Love You can be assigned to the style of rhythm and blues , among other things due to its strikingly strong bass, which is dominant throughout the song and gives the piece its character . Also stylistically unmistakable is the strongly improvised text, which changes only slightly over the course of the day, and which essentially consists of the eponymous fragment "Really Love You". The very high voice in the middle section, which is post-processed with echo effects, is atypical for an otherwise classic blues. It gives the song a more experimental note, which is stylistically similar to earlier pieces like Coming Up or Bogey Music .
