The first recording of the Beatles, which Emerick accompanied as sound engineer, was Tomorrow Never Knows (1966), because his predecessor Norman Smith was from then on as a producer. One of Emerick's most significant inventions was to record John Lennon's voice over a Leslie loudspeaker , which resulted in a special alienation of the voice. In addition, he revolutionized the recording technology in pop and rock productions through completely new miking techniques that are now considered standard worldwide.

After the Beatles broke up, Emerick worked with Paul McCartney ( Band on the Run , 1973; London Town , 1977; Tug of War , 1982 and Flaming Pie , 1997) as well as with Elvis Costello , Art Garfunkel , America , Supertramp , Cheap Trick, among others , Split Enz , Mahavishnu Orchestra , Jeff Beck and Nellie McKay .

In 2006 Emerick published his memoir in a book called Here, There and Everywhere ( ISBN 1-59240-179-1 ), named after a song by the Beatles. Output: You make the Beatles! ISBN 3-442-36746-8 ]. The co-author was the music journalist Howard Massey.

In April 2007, Emerick worked with Oasis , the Kaiser Chiefs , Travis and Razorlight on a re-recording of the Beatles album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band . For this he used the original recording technology from 1967. The result of this work was broadcast on BBC Radio on June 2, 2007 on the 40th birthday of the original album .

Emerick died of a heart attack in Los Angeles on October 2, 2018, at the age of 72.
