Carl Davis
Carl Davis (born October 28, 1936 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York ) is an American composer .
Life
Carl Davis wrote the music for over 100 television series and is known for his dubbing of silent films . In 1979 he was able to celebrate a great success with the dubbing of Napoléon by Abel Gance . In 1981, he received a British Academy Film Award and a Grammy nomination for his film music for The French Lieutenant's Beloved . In 1993 he was appointed Artistic Director and Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra . To mark the 150th anniversary of the orchestra's founding, he and Paul McCartney wrote the Liverpool Oratorio in honor of Liverpool .
In addition to his work as a composer for film and television, for example in Das Buch Eva - Ticket ins Paradies (2002), Davis also composes for ballet and radio plays . On June 17, 2012, the song cycle “Last Train to Tomorrow” was premiered in Manchester, a work commissioned by the Hallé Orchestra and dedicated to the Kindertransporten . In 2003 he was awarded the British Academy Film Awards for lifetime achievement and in July 2005 he was selected by the British Queen Elizabeth II. To the Commander of the British Empire appointed honorary.
Although he retained his US citizenship, he has lived in London for over 20 years . He is married to the British actress Jean Boht , with whom he has two daughters.
