The book Eva - Ticket ins Paradies (original title: The Book of Eve ) is a Canadian love film by Claude Fournier from the year 2002. Fournier and Terri Hawkes wrote the screenplay based on a novel by Constance Beresford-Howe .

Retired teacher Eva Smallwood suffers from her dominant husband. She invents a fictional friend May, with whom she speaks. When Eva turns 65, she moves out and finds a small apartment in a notorious residential area. There she meets the neighbor Johnny, who comes from Romania and is much younger than her. Eva and Johnny begin a love affair. She later discovers that Johnny has another girlfriend.

The film, shot in Montreal, cost approximately 6.3 million Canadian dollars to produce . Its world premiere was in September 2002 at the Toronto International Film Festival .

Reviews

For Geoff Pevere of the Toronto Star , The Book of Eve - Ticket to Paradise was "a quirky little movie." According to Prisma , however, it is "an enchanting love story".

The first spoke of a “film that is as extraordinary as it is magical”. He is "romantic, with a good sense for emotional nuances and a dash of humor".
