Thrillington is Paul McCartney's first solo studio album , which he released under a pseudonym . At the same time, it is Paul McCartney's ninth album after the Beatles split up . The album was released on April 29, 1977 in the UK and on May 16, 1977 in the USA.

Emergence

Shortly after the release of Ram , Paul McCartney commissioned arranger Richard Hewson to write and record an orchestral version of the album Ram in big band sound. Richard Hewson previously worked as arranger on the Beatles' album Let It Be . The recordings took place from June 15 to 17, 1971 in London's Abbey Road Studios , Paul McCartney only produced the recordings. The album was mixed by Tony Clark and Alan Parsons on June 18, 1971.

Paul McCartney decided not to release the album under his name but under the pseudonym Percy "Thrills" Thrillington. According to the press release, a fictional life story was written for this person.

The finished album was released on April 29, 1977 in Great Britain (May 16, 1977 in the USA) under the title Thrillington . It could not place itself in the charts and the production was stopped relatively soon after the release, so that the album developed into a coveted collector's item in later years.

The cover text was written by Clint Harrigan, who also directed the cover text for the first album of Wings , Wildlife , wrote, even behind this pseudonym Paul McCartney hid.
