In addition to works by artists from the GDR, the Amiga music label also published selected singles and LPs by artists from western countries under license from the mid-1960s . The label belonged to the sound carrier producer VEB Deutsche Schallplatten Berlin and was subordinate to the Ministry of Culture in the VEB . The records were usually sold out quickly because of the small overall supply of Western music and the usually low print runs - Michael Rauhut mentions a contractual agreement of 10,000 copies per license pressing. In most cases, no single albums were licensed, but a compilation of tracks from several albums by the artists. The first licensed LPs included albums by the Beatles and Bob Dylan in the 1960s . In April 1965 the album was published by the Beatles compilation album The Beatles , followed in January 1974 A Collection of Beatles Oldies and in January 1980 the album 1967-1970 , which, however, contains only 14 songs on a single album instead of a double album with 28 tracks.

Amiga decided in the 1980s to only publish records / music cassettes by John Lennon and Paul McCartney from the ex-Beatles . While John Lennon released the albums Double Fantasy (1981) and Shaved Fish (1983), Paul McCartney did not take over the compilation album Wings Greatest from 1978, as in Bulgaria and Poland , but a separate compilation album with the title Paul McCartney and Wings : (according to label printing Paul McCartney a nd Wings compiled).

In 1980 the Wings released the single Mull of Kintyre / Girls' School with a new cover design by Martin Kempfer in the GDR . Another version only had a perforated cover. It was the only single from the Wings / Paul McCartney that was released in the GDR. For the compilation album Paul McCartney and Wings was the Mull of Kintyre , but not Girls' School adopted, and another five songs by Wings Greatest : Another Day , My Love , Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey , With a Little Luck and Band on the Run . Amiga also selected the following six songs: Coming Up from the then current McCartney album McCartney II as well as single A-side, two songs from the last Wings album Back to the Egg Spin It On and Getting Closer (also single A-side), from London Town the title track London Town (also single A-side), the US number one hit Listen to What the Man Said from the Wings album Venus and Mars and Maybe I'm Amazed from the McCartney album McCartney . The exact publication date in 1981 cannot be determined because there is no information about it.

In the GDR, other Paul McCartney / Wings albums were pressed, the record covers were made in the Federal Republic of Germany and exported to the GDR. The following albums were only available in GDR Intershops : London Town , Back to the Egg , McCartney II , Tug of War , Press to Play and Flowers in the Dirt . (Note: From April 16, 1979, GDR citizens had to exchange foreign currency (Westgeld) for forum checks at the State Bank of the GDR in order to continue shopping in the Intershop . Western foreigners continued to pay in Westgeld. One forum check mark was equivalent to one DM. the smallest denomination was 50 forum check pfennigs.)

Republication

The album Paul McCartney and Wings has not yet been released legally on CD .

Cover design

The design of the album cover comes from the Amiga company's own design department at VEB Gotha-Druck. The front cover of the album is essentially based on the international single cover by Mull of Kintyre . A photo of Paul McCartney was used for the back cover. A back cover text was omitted.
