Back in the US is the fifth live album by Paul McCartney . At the same time, including the Wings albums, the Fireman albums, the classic albums, the live albums and compilation albums, it is the 35th album by Paul McCartney after the breakup of the Beatles , which was released in the USA. It was released on November 26, 2002 in the United States and Japan . The album is only available through imports in Europe.
Emergence
Following the publication and promotion work for his album Driving Rain , Paul McCartney went on tour again for the first time since 1993 in April 2002. For these planned live performances he put together a new band: Paul “Wix” Wickens, who was a member of his backing band from 1989 to 1993, and Abe Laboriel Jr. and Rusty Anderson , who were studio musicians on the album Driving Rain . Brian Ray joined as a new member; Paul McCartney has given concerts in this compilation to this day (as of March 2016).
On October 20, 2001, in Madison Square Garden in New York, a benefit concert took place in this line-up for the benefit of the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 , where Paul McCartney played seven songs.
From April 1 to May 18, 2002 Paul McCartney began his US tour under the name Driving Rain Tour with 27 concerts. During this tour, the live album Back in the US was recorded; However, it is not documented at which concerts the individual songs were recorded.
The setlist of the Driving Rain Tour was as follows:

|
After the tour, Paul McCartney married his partner Heather Mills on June 11, 2002 .
From September 21 to October 29, 2002 a North American tour followed under the name Back in the US Tour with 23 concerts.
On October 5, 2002, the songs She's Leaving Home and Michelle were also played at Conseco Fieldhouse, Indianapolis . Midnight Special was played during the Houston concert and the song Calico Skies was played in Osaka .
From November 2nd to 5th, 2002 McCartney gave three concerts in Mexico City under the name Driving Mexico Tour , followed by the Driving Japan Tour from November 11th to 18th, 2002 in Japan with five concerts.
As with the live albums Wings over America and Tripping the Live Fantastic , Back in the US was again released as a double CD. The order of the songs corresponds to the order of the songs that were played during the concerts. It was Paul McCartney's first album that was not released as a vinyl long-playing record.
While there are five Beatles songs on the album Wings over America , the number has been increased to fifteen on Tripping the Live Fantastic and nineteen on Back in the US ; as in the album Wings over America the designation of authorship was also Lennon / McCartney in McCartney / Lennon reversed.
One of the Beatles songs is the George Harrison composition Something , which Paul McCartney played in memory of George Harrison, who died in November 2001; the song was performed with a ukulele played by McCartney , a favorite instrument of Harrison.
The album was commercially successful in the USA (15th top ten album).
On March 25, 2003 the European tour followed under the name Back in the World Tour, and in March 2003 the live album Back in the World was released .
