Emergence
The idea for Ocean's Kingdom came about in 2009 when Paul McCartney met the head of the New York City Ballet Peter Martins during a ballet performance. Martins asked McCartney if he would be willing to compose something for the New York City Ballet. After studying ballet music , McCartney decided to write a ballet piece for the first time, which is abbreviated to the following:
“The center of action is the ocean, which is threatened by the earth's inhabitants. Until then, Princess Honorata lives there peacefully and looks after her father, King Ocean. The unannounced intruders from Earth are led by the unscrupulous King Terra, who, in addition to his followers, also brought his likable brother Prince Stone with him. Horata and Stone fall in love and after betrayal, imprisonment [by Honorata], their safe return to the ocean is considered a success. "
Paul McCartney took a previously unused composition that was originally intended for the Disney film Oceans ( German : ' Our Oceans '), but was not used. The recordings for Ocean's Kingdom took place in June 2011 at the Henry Wood Hall in London. It was recorded by the London Classical Orchestra under the direction of John Wilson.
On September 21, 2011, the world premiere of Ocean's Kingdom took place at New York's Lincoln Center . The New York City Ballet Orchestra conducted by Fayçal Karoui performed, the premier recordings are available for download . The costumes for the performance come from the fashion designer Stella McCartney , a daughter of Paul McCartney.
The album Ocean's Kingdom was also released as a vinyl double LP.
