Our Oceans is a French documentary film by the directors Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud from 2009. The production is distributed in Germany through the distributor of Universum Film .

The film shows an almost completely unexplored area of ​​our planet: the oceans and their inhabitants. The film begins with a shot of the thundering sea in a storm off the coast of Brittany , the noise is deafening. Then the camera sinks below the surface of the water and everything becomes still.

You can follow an iguana looking for food, watch dolphins hunt and see a flock of seabirds attacking a school of fish.

Further images show a collection of rays gliding silently through the water and huge schools of small fish swimming in formation like a ball. Then whales with the "underwater ballet", orcas and sharks looking for food.

In addition to the film music by Bruno Coulais , you can also hear a variety of noises from the ocean: its roar and the voices of its inhabitants, such as B. the whale song.

But the film not only shows the beautiful sides of the ocean, but also its dangers. Hazards that are for the animals z. B. by laying miles of nets in the sea, how turtles, dolphins and other marine mammals get caught in them.

  • The work on the manuscript for Our Oceans took almost three years, the filming took four years. In addition to the two directors, a team of divers, scientists and technicians were involved in the project. It was shot at a total of 54 locations around the planet.

The soundtrack for Our Oceans comes from Bruno Coulais , who u. a. also composed the film music for Mikrokosmos - The People of the Grasses and The Children of Monsieur Mathieu .
