Tripping the Live Fantastic ( English the magic of live music experience ) is the second live album by Paul McCartney . At the same time, including the Wings albums , it is Paul McCartney's 20th album after the Beatles split up . It was released on November 5, 1990 in the UK and on November 6, 1990 in the US.
The compilation album Tripping the Live Fantastic - Highlights! is not an independent new album by Paul McCartney, but mainly contains selected songs from the album Tripping the Live Fantastic . It was released on November 19, 1990 in the UK and on November 20, 1990 in the US.
Emergence
Following the release of his album Flowers in the Dirt , Paul McCartney went on tour again for the first time in ten years in September 1989.
From September 26 to November 11, 1989, Paul McCartney began his world tour with a European tour with 28 concerts, followed by a North American tour with fourteen concerts from November 23 to December 15. From January 2 to January 26, 1990 McCartney gave six concerts in Birmingham and eleven concerts in Wembley, London . From February 1 to 19, 1990, eleven concerts followed in the USA, six appearances in Tokyo (March 3 to 13, 1990), then Paul McCartney gave nine concerts in the USA from March 29 to April 15, 1990 .
The tour should end with the concerts on April 20 and 21, 1990 in the Estádio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro . On Saturday, April 21st, 184,000 spectators came to the stadium. At the request of concert promoters in Great Britain and the USA, the world tour was extended to include three concerts in Great Britain (June 23, 28 and 30) and twelve concerts in the USA (July 4 to 29, 1990).
On August 6, 1990 Polydor Records released the live compilation album Knebworth - The Album , which includes live recordings by Coming Up and Hey Jude . The charity concert took place on June 30, 1990, in addition to Paul McCartney, other artists including Pink Floyd , Eric Clapton , Elton John , Phil Collins , Cliff Richard and Robert Plant and Jimmy Page appeared.
Of the 102 concerts, 83 performances were recorded with a 32-track digital tape recorder under the direction of Jeff Cohen. Paul McCartney, Pete Henderson and Bob Clearmountain selected the songs that were used for the album Tripping the Live Fantastic .
As with Wings over America , this live album was also released as a triple long-playing record and a double CD. While there are five Beatles songs on the album Wings over America , the number on Tripping the Live Fantastic has been increased to fifteen, in contrast to Wings over America, the name of the authorship Lennon / McCartney was retained.
The order of the songs corresponds with a few exceptions to the order of the songs as they were played during the concerts. On the setlist but not on the album Tripping the Live Fantastic is Good Day Sunshine , which was released as the B-side of the single Birthday . Birthday , included on the album, was only played on June 30, 1990 in Knebworth . The concert sequence is also interrupted by five soundcheck recordings.
A selection of songs has been selected to include the compilation album Tripping the Live Fantastic - Highlights! to publish. The European edition contains the song All My Trials , which is not on Tripping the Live Fantastic , while the US edition of Tripping the Live Fantastic - Highlights! contains the song Put It There . All My Trials was performed exclusively in Milan on October 27, 1989 . The release of this album took place for the first time in most countries only as a CD, occasionally, as in the USA, Australia or Czechoslovakia , vinyl long-playing records were still made.
Cover design
The cover was designed by Peter Saville. The double CD comes with two booklets - each with 28 pages - containing information about the album and pictures of the tour. The single CD has a 24-page booklet.
