All the best! ( English Alles Gute! ) is the eighth solo album by Paul McCartney . At the same time, including the Wings albums , it is Paul McCartney's 18th album after the Beatles split up and his second compilation album . It was released on November 2, 1987 in the UK and December 1, 1987 in the US.
Emergence
After the commercial failure of the album Press to Play , Paul McCartney recorded several songs with Phil Ramone as a producer in February / March 1987; but there was no LP release.
Two songs from these recording sessions were released in 1987, Once Upon A Long Ago was chosen for the compilation album All the Best! and used as the single A-side, the second song Back On My Feet became the B-side .
On July 20 and 21, 1987, Paul McCartney recorded 16 rock 'n' roll tracks; four of these songs, Midnight Special , Don't Get Around Much More , Lawdy Miss Clawdy, and Kansas City , were used as B-side titles for two Once Upon a Long Ago maxisingles released in November 1987.
Since the recorded songs were not used for a new studio album in 1987, another compilation album was released nine years after the release of Wings Greatest . Although All the Best! (European LP edition) contains eleven songs by the Wings , Paul McCartney was given as the sole interpreter.
Originally the title Waterspout , an unpublished song of the London Town Sessions , was to be published on the compilation album, but this project was discarded in favor of Once Upon a Long Ago .
The European LP version of All the Best! contains 19 top ten hits, including three number one hits, from Great Britain. The top ten hits from Great Britain Mary Had a Little Lamb , Wonderful Christmastime and Waterfalls are not included on the album. Maybe I'm Amazed (Studio Version) wasn't a single in the UK.
The US-American LP version of All the Best! contains 17 top ten hits, nine of which are number one hits from the USA. The top ten hits from the USA Helen Wheels , Mabe I'm Amazed (Live Version) , Take It Away and Spies Like Us are not included on the album.
The duet The Girl Is Mine with Michael Jackson , also a top ten hit in Great Britain and the USA, is a composition by Michael Jackson and was released on another recording company, so this song is not on All the Best! is included.
The album was very successful commercially in the UK, selling over 900,000 copies and over two million copies in the US.
To promote the album and the single in Germany, Paul McCartney appeared on the German entertainment show Wetten, dass ..? On December 20, 1987 . and performed the song Once Upon a Long Ago with full playback .
