Mull of Kintyre is a song by the Wings that was released in 1977. It was a number one hit in many countries and became the first single to sell more than two million copies in the UK .
Emergence
The piece was written in 1970 by Paul McCartney and Wings guitarist Denny Laine as a description of the landscape around the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland , where McCartney owns a studio and a farm.
Mull of Kintyre was recorded as a single in London and released on November 11, 1977 on Capitol Records . The single was produced as a double A-side; on the back was the Song Girls' School . The musicians were supported with bagpipes by the Campbeltown Pipe Band from Kintyre .
Chart successes
Mull of Kintyre became an international chart success. In the UK it was number one on the charts for nine weeks and one of the most successful Christmas number one hits ever. The song also took place in Australia (11 weeks), Belgium (6 weeks), Germany (10 weeks), Ireland (10 weeks), New Zealand (7 weeks), Netherlands (5 weeks), Austria (4 weeks) and Switzerland (10 weeks) Number one on the charts.
