Ebony and Ivory is a 1982 song by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder that was released on the album Tug of War and as a single.

history

The single Ebony and Ivory was released on March 29, 1982 and became a number one hit in numerous countries , including Germany (5 weeks), Great Britain (3 weeks) and the USA (7 weeks).

Based on the materials from which piano keys were originally made, Ebony (German: Ebony ) stands for black and Ivory (German: Ivory ) for white, in general the song is about the peaceful coexistence of all people, regardless of their skin color. McCartney was inspired to write the song by a sentence by Spike Milligan : "Black notes, white notes, and you need to play the two to make harmony folks!" Although McCartney wrote the song, he sang the song as a duet with Stevie Wonder, to emphasize the importance of the song.
