Giuseppe Colombi
Giuseppe Colombi (* 1635 in Modena ; † September 27, 1694 ibid) was an Italian composer and violinist of the Baroque.
Life
Judging by the title pages of his works, he was an instrumentist (suonatore) in the court orchestra of Duke Francesco II d'Este . from Modena, in 1673 he called himself “Capo degl 'instrumentisti del Seren. di Modena ” . So he was first violinist and head of the instrumental band. From December 1674 he received a monthly salary of 96 lire. In 1676 the title of Vice Kapellmeister followed and in the same year that of Kapellmeister. In 1678 Giuseppe Colombi succeeded Giovanni Maria Bononcini as Kapellmeister at the Modena Cathedral . This is confirmed in a print from 1689, where he also mentions the Duke as his violin student. Numerous works as prints and as manuscript are in the “ Biblioteca Estense Universitaria di Modena ”.
