Emergence

Since his studio album Kisses on the Bottom from 2012, the download single Cut Me Some Slack was released on December 17, 2012 , which Paul McCartney recorded with former members of the music group Nirvana , Dave Grohl , Krist Novoselić and Pat Smear . The song Cut Me Some Slack was played in this formation during the benefit concert 12-12-12: Concert for Sandy Victims (Original: 12-12-12: Concert for Sandy Relief ) on December 12, 2012 in Madison Square Garden in New York performed, where Paul McCartney also performed with his band. Only the song Helter Skelter was released on the benefit album 12-12-12: Concert for Sandy Relief . In June 2012, a live duet of a comedy version of the song Yesterday was released on Jimmy Fallon's album Blow Your Pants Off .

On June 17, 2013, another download single entitled Out of Sight was released under the artist name The Bloody Beetroots feat. Paul McCartney & Youth released, which like Cut Me Some Slack could not place in the charts. On October 29, 2013, the new recording of the Christmas song Wonderful Christmastime by the group Straight No Chaser appeared on their album Under the Influence - Holiday Edition , Paul McCartney contributed the vocals for the song Wonderful Christmastime .

In 2011 Paul McCartney decided to record a new studio album, where he wanted to work with several younger producers in advance, in order to then decide on one. This idea was discarded, so four producers were used for the album. Giles Martin , son of the Beatles' producer George Martin , was chosen as the main producer , and so Paul McCartney let the musical ideas of the four producers flow into the creation of the album.

The first recordings for the album New took place in January 2012 with Paul Epworth as producer at Wolf Tone Studios in London . Paul Epworth and Paul McCartney developed new songs through improvisation, these are the collective compositions Save Us , Queenie Eye , Road and Struggle . Paul McCartney and Paul Epworth played all instruments during the recordings. Additional recordings took place at Hensons Studios, Hog Hill Studios and AIR Studios.

Between February and March 2012, recordings for the songs Hosanna, Early Days , Turned Out and Demons Dance followed at AIR Studios , Hog Hill Studios and Abbey Road Studios . Responsible producer here was Ethan Johns , whose father, Glyn Johns was one of the three producers of the Beatles album Let It Be . Additional additional recordings took place at Hensons Studios and Abbey Road Studios.

In January and February 2012 Paul McCartney recorded the songs New and Alligator with producer Mark Ronson , who was also the DJ at the wedding of Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell , further recordings were made in July 2013. According to some sources, the song is said to be still The Secret Life of a Party Girl was produced by Mark Ronson. Additional recordings for the songs took place in the Hensons Studios, Avatar Studios and AIR Studios.

Between March and May 2012 Paul McCartney went on tour in Europe and South America , the tour was called On The Run Tour . On June 4, McCartney performed at The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert , where he played five songs. McCartney also appeared on July 27, 2012 during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and played the songs The End and Hey Jude .

With Giles Martin, the fourth and final producer of the album, the songs On My Way to Work , Everybody Out There , I Can Bet , Get Me Out of Here , Looking at Her, Appreciate , Scared and Hell to were released between March and May 2013 Pay recorded at Hog Hill Studios and AIR Studios. Additional additional recordings took place at Hensons Studios, Hog Hill Studios and Abbey Road Studios.

It is not documented when the recording work on the album was completed, as Paul McCartney allegedly had vocal cord problems in 2012 and some vocal parts were re-recorded.

The album was released on October 11, 2013, after McCartney had already presented the songs Save Us, New and Everybody Out There on September 21, 2013 during the “iHeart Radio Music Festival” .

Due to the takeover of EMI by the Universal Music Group in 2011, the album New was again released in Great Britain by EMI / Virgin Music, after Paul McCartney separated from the recording company EMI in 2007 and joined the Hear Music / Universal Music Group was changed.

The album New was commercially successful in Germany (eleventh Top Ten album), Great Britain (26th Top Ten album) and in the USA (19th Top Ten album). The album was also released in Europe as a twelve-track vinyl album.
