Pure McCartney is the fourth compilation album by Paul McCartney . At the same time, including the Wings albums, the Fireman albums, the classic albums, the live albums and compilation albums, it is Paul McCartney's 46th album after the Beatles split up . It was released on June 10, 2016 in Germany , the UK and the USA .

Emergence

The fourth compilation album by Paul McCartney after Wings Greatest (1978), All the Best! (1987) and Wingspan: Hits and History (2001) was titled Pure McCartney and came out in three versions with different numbers of songs. The double CD contains 39, the quadruple LP 41 and the four-CD box 67 songs.

In the foreword in the CD booklet, Paul McCartney writes that he and his team had the idea of ​​putting together a compilation album from his "long and winding career", with the priority being given to having "fun" while listening.

The selection of songs covers the period from 1970, starting with the McCartney album through to the 2014 single Hope for the Future . The cross-career retrospective with 67 songs does not take into account the two rock 'n' roll albums Снова в СССР and Run Devil Run as well as the studio albums Flowers in the Dirt and Driving Rain , but for the first time a song by The Fireman . The proportion of the songs on the respective albums is as follows:

The album contains 17 US and 19 UK top ten hits, including three UK and nine US number one hits. Not included are the top ten hits from Great Britain Mary Had a Little Lamb , Wonderful Christmastime and Once upon a Long Ago , as well as the top ten hits from the USA Helen Wheels , Take it Away and Spies Like Us . Hope of Deliverance , a top ten hit in several continental European countries, is also not included.

The duet with Michael Jackson The Girl Is Mine , also a top ten hit in Great Britain and the USA, is a composition by Michael Jackson and was released on another recording company, so this song is not included on Pure McCartney for legal reasons .

The version of Say Say Say is not the original version, but a remix that was made in 2015 and is on the re-release of the 2015 album Pipes of Peace . The used songs of the album Tug of War is the Neuabmischungen from the year 2015. 26 songs of the four-CD box were for the publication of Alex Wharton in the Abbey Road Studios newly remastered .

The album Pure McCartney was commercially successful in Germany (12th Top Ten album) and Great Britain (27th Top Ten album).

Cover design

The cover designed YES. The cover photo is by Linda McCartney and was taken during the recording sessions for the Ram album in 1970/1971.

Other photos used for the 18-page CD booklet and the 42-page book of the CD box edition (19 cm × 14 cm) are by Linda McCartney, Mary McCartney , Graham Hughes, David Dugley, Richard Haughton and MJ Kim. The CD booklet / book contains extensive information on the songs.
