Jeff Hamilton (* 4. August 1953 in Richmond (Indiana) ) is an American jazz - drummer .

Live and act

Jeff Hamilton studied at Indiana University and worked in the 1970s in the Tommy Dorsey - Ghost Band and briefly with Lionel Hampton . From 1975 he played for two years in the trio of Monty Alexander , belonged to the Woody Herman Orchestra in 1977/78 , played with Milt Jackson and succeeded Shelly Manne in the band The LA Four with Ray Brown , Laurindo Almeida and Bud Shank . He then became a studio musician for the Concord label . From 1983 to 1987 he worked on recordings for Ella Fitzgerald , Rosemary Clooney , the Count Basie Orchestra and Monty Alexander.

In the 1990s, Hamilton worked in the quartet of bassist John Clayton , went on tour with Oscar Peterson and played in Ray Brown's trio with Gene Harris and Benny Green and directed the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra with John and Jeff Clayton . He also worked with Diana Krall and led his own trio with bassist Christoph Luty and pianist Tamir Hendelman ; In 1999 the album Hamilton House was created on the Mons label.

Jeff Hamilton also worked on recordings by Ernestine Anderson , Dan Barrett , Dave Frishberg , Jacques Gauthé , Scott Hamilton , Atsuko Hashimoto , Cal Collins , Oliver Jones , Vic Lewis , George Shearing , Paul Kuhn and Mel Tormé .
