Jeff Clayton (born February 16, 1954 in Los Angeles ) is an American jazz saxophonist.

Clayton dropped out of oboe from California State University to tour with Stevie Wonder . He subsequently recorded with Gladys Knight , Kenny Rogers , Michael Jackson , Patti LaBelle and Madonna . With his brother John Clayton he founded the Clayton Brothers' Quartet in 1977 . In addition, he directs the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra alongside Jeff Hamilton .

He worked with Frank Sinatra , Sammy Davis Jr. , Ella Fitzgerald , Woody Herman , Lionel Hampton and Lena Horne and was a member of the Count Basie Orchestra under Thad Jones . From 1989 to 1991 he was a member of the Philip Morris Superband . He also toured with Gene Harris , Dianne Reeves , Joe Cocker , BB King and Ray Charles . Since the late 2000s, he also appears with The Clayton Brothers , which includes his brother John and his nephew Gerald Clayton (piano).
