Grammy Award for Best Music Film

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grammy Award for Best Music Film (known as Best Long Form Music Video until 2013 ) is a music award that has been presented under changing names at the annual Grammy Awards since 1984 . Music films are awarded , with the award being differentiated from the Grammy Award for Best Music Video for music videos of individual songs.

Background and story

The Grammy Awards (actually Grammophone Awards), which have been presented since 1958, are presented annually in numerous categories by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) in the United States of America for artistic achievement, technical competence and excellent overall performance regardless of the album - Honor sales or chart position.

The Grammy Award for Best Music Film was introduced in 1984 as Best Video Album alongside the Grammy Award for Best Music Video as one of two successors to the Grammy Award for Video of the Year , which was given in 1982 and 1983, and has since changed its name several times:

  • Best Video Album (1984–1985)
  • Best Music Video, Long Form (1986–1997)
  • Best Long Form Music Video (1998-2013)
  • Best Music Film (since 2014)

It is awarded to actors, directors and producers of high quality longer music videos and music films, including documentaries and concert films. In 1988 and 1989 the criteria for this category were changed and the award was given in two categories as Best Concept Music Video and Best Performance Music Video . In 1990 the original shape was restored. A minimum of 51% music is required by the performing artists.

The award was given twice to the musicians Madonna and Sting , who received this award most often as an actor; Madonna was nominated four times. Director David Mallet is the only director to have won the award twice. The most frequently nominated without having received the award were the Eurythmics with three nominations.

Winners and nominees

In 1984 and 1985, only the actors were awarded the prize. In 1986, in addition to the artists, the director and, since 1987, the producers as well.
