Rupert Wainwright (born November 30, 1961 (other details 1963 ) in Cotswolds , England ) is a British actor and director .

Life

Wainwright studied literature at Oxford University . As an actor, he starred in the films Another Country and The Real Life of Alice in Wonderland . In 1986 he got a Fulbright program to study film at the University of California, Los Angeles in Los Angeles . Wainwright was one of the youngest directors in the Columbia Pictures Discovery Program competition . His short film Open Window was well received in Hollywood. After graduating, he founded the video production company Fragile Films and directed music videos. In the film business, Wainwright has directed such films as Stigmata and The Fog .

In May 1989, his video Straight Outta Compton by the hip-hop crew NWA first aired. The video was banned by the FBI . Wainwright received a Grammy Award for his 1990 collaboration with MC Hammer (entitled Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em ) . MC Hammer's Too Legit to Quit music video is one of the most expensive music videos at a cost of more than $ 2.5 million. In 1996 he made a sensational short film for Michael Jackson's HIStory in Budapest . For Safura he wrote Azerbaijan's contribution to the 55th Eurovision Song Contest with the title Drip Drop . Wainwright shot other music videos for Aftershock , George Clinton , Jermaine Stewart , Eazy-E , Tone Loc and Too Short , among others . In his career, Wainwright received other awards such as the MTV Video Music Awards .

As a commercial filmmaker, Wainwright shot a spot for Honda with Anthony Hopkins and a spot for Gatorade with Michael Jordan in the 1990s . He also shot the promotional video for Russia's successful bid for the 2014 Winter Olympics . The video was broadcast in 142 states. For the successful application for the Universiade 2013 he also directed three presentation films by Russia and wrote the scripts.
