Lambertus Reinier (Reinbert) de Leeuw (born September 8, 1938 in Amsterdam ; † February 14, 2020 there ) was a Dutch conductor , pianist and composer .

education

De Leeuw studied piano and music theory at the Amsterdam Conservatory and completed a composition course with Kees van Baaren at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague , where he soon taught himself.

Teaching

Reinbert de Leeuw has been a full professor at the University of Leiden since 2004 .

Awards

In 1991 de Leeuw received the Sikkensprijs , and in 1992 he was awarded the 3M-Muzieklaureaat , the largest Dutch music award. In 1994 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Utrecht . He received the Edison Music Award in 2002.
