The Río Guadalimar is an approximately 180 km long tributary of the Guadalquivir in the provinces of Albacete and Jaén in southeastern Spain .

The Río Guadalimar (or better its source stream Arroyo de Tejo ) rises on the southeast flank of the 1769 m high Pico de la Sarga in the area of ​​the municipality ( municipio ) Villaverde de Guadalimar in the southwest of the province of Albacete . It then flows through the province of Jaén in a west and south-westerly direction and finally flows into the Guadalquivir approx. 5 km south of Jabalquinto and east of Mengíbar .

In earlier times the bank zones of the middle and lower reaches of the Río Guadalimar were terraced in places and were used for agriculture. Today the river is used in parts to irrigate almost endless olive plantations.

The Romans and Moors already knew the river; they called him Tago or Tugio or الوادي الاحمر (= Wadi al-Ihmar ). From the Castillo de Giribaile one controlled the river valley of the Río Guadalimar. In 1226/7 the Christians recaptured the area ( reconquista )
