Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 is the fourth studio album from Janet Jackson , which in September 1989 at A & M Records was released.
history
Janet Jackson decided to do a concept album about social injustice. She worked with the songwriting team Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and wrote six of the pieces on the album herself. Janet Jackson produced the album herself, with label boss John McClain "Executive Producer".
The album moves between contemporary R&B and pop, with influences from hip-hop also being present in the vocals . The ballad Livin 'in a World (They Didn't Make) describes the fate of children exposed to violence.
Eight singles were released: Miss You Much , Rhythm Nation , Escapade , Alright , Come Back to Me , Black Cat , Love Will Never Do (Without You) and State of the World .
criticism
The website Allmusic wrote that Jackson's voice is pretty thin but has "soul and spirit". The concept of the album was successful.
