Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance
The Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance , in German " Grammy Award for the best pop instrumental performance ", is a music prize that was awarded from 1969 to 2011 by the American Recording Academy in the field of pop music .
History and background
Since 1959, the Grammy Awards are presented annually in numerous categories by the Recording Academy in the United States to recognize artistic achievement, technical competence, and overall outstanding performance regardless of album sales or chart position.
One of these categories was the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. The award was awarded from 1969 to 2011 and has had a few minor name changes over the years:
- In 1969 the award was called the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Pop Performance, Instrumental
- From 1970 to 1971 the award was called the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Performance
- In 1972 the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance was given
- In 1973 the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance by an Instrumental Performer was given
- From 1974 to 1975 the category was again called the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance
- From 1986 to 1989 her name was Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance (Orchestra, Group or Soloist)
- Since 1990 the name of the award has been the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
The award was discontinued in 2011 due to an extensive revision of the Grammy Award categories. From 2012 onwards, all solo, duo or group instrumental performances were awarded either in the new category Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance or the new category Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo / Group Performance . With the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Performance , a similar award was given from 1965 to 1968, but it did not award pop music.
