Bruce Hornsby
Bruce Randall Hornsby (born November 23, 1954 in Williamsburg , Virginia ) is an American singer, pianist and songwriter. His music combines different styles from pop and jazz to bluegrass .
life and work
Hornsby became known worldwide with his hit The Way It Is in 1986 , which reached number 1 in the USA . For the album of the same name, which he recorded with his band The Range , along with the successors Scenes from the Southside (1988) and A Night on the Town (1990) , he and the band received his first Grammy for best new artist. In the 1990s Hornsby continued his career as a solo artist and released various albums.
In addition to his solo projects, Hornsby also worked many times with other musicians, such as Bill Evans , Stevie Nicks , Pat Metheny , Don Henley and Bonnie Raitt . He wrote the hit Jacob's Ladder for Huey Lewis in 1986 and The End of the Innocence for Henley . In the early 1990s he also appeared as the keyboardist for the Grateful Dead . In 2007, the album Ricky Skaggs & Bruce Hornsby was created in collaboration with country and bluegrass musician Ricky Skaggs , and the highly acclaimed jazz album Camp Meeting in collaboration with the well-known drummer Jack DeJohnette and bassist Christian McBride .
Especially for his instrumental music he has been nominated for a Grammy several times and has received two awards:
- 1990 for The Valley Road together with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band as best bluegrass recording
- 1994 with Branford Marsalis for Barcelona Mona as best pop instrumental
Private life
Hornsby and his wife, Kathy, have two sons.
