Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance
The Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance , in German "Grammy Award for the best chamber music performance", is a music prize that was awarded from 1959 to 2011 by the American Recording Academy in the field of classical music .
History and background
Since 1959, the Grammy Awards are presented annually in numerous categories by the Recording Academy in the United States to recognize artistic achievement, technical competence, and overall outstanding performance regardless of album sales or chart position.
One of these categories was the Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance. The prize was awarded from 1959 to 2011 and has seen several minor name changes over the course of its existence:
- From 1959 to 1960 the award was called the Grammy Award for Best Classical Performance - Chamber Music (including chamber orchestra)
- In 1961 he was in Grammy Award for Best Classical Performance - Vocal or Instrumental - Chamber Music renamed
- From 1962 to 1964 it called itself the Grammy Award for Best Classical Performance - Chamber Music
- In 1965 the title was Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance - Vocal and Best Chamber Music Performance - Instrumental
- From 1966 to 1967 the category was named Grammy Award for Best Classical Chamber Music Performance - Instrumental or Vocal
- From 1968 to 1990 it was called the Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance
- In 1991, the award was Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music or Other Small Ensemble Performance award
- From 1992 to 2011 it was called the Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance.
The award was discontinued in 2011 as part of a major overhaul of the Grammy categories. Since 2012 recordings from the field of chamber music have been recognized in the Grammy Award for Best Small Ensemble Performance category.
