Jennifer Koh

Jennifer Koh (* 8. October 1976 in Glen Ellyn , Illinois ) is an American violinist with Korean parents.

Jennifer Koh's parents, father a businessman, mother a librarian, emigrated from Korea to the United States in 1960. She earned a bachelor's degree in English literature from Oberlin College in Oberlin , Ohio and a diploma from the affiliated Oberlin Conservatory . She also graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and achieved second place at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1994 with Anastasia Savelyevna Chebotareva , with a first prize not being awarded. In the same year she won a scholarship from the Concert Artists Guild .

Jennifer Koh has performed with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra , the New York Philharmonic , the Czech Philharmonic , the BBC National Orchestra of Wales , the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra , the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra and is a music education advocate for Children.

She often records new music as well as albums that combine classical with less popular contemporary pieces (e.g. Franz Schubert with Arnold Schönberg ).

She is married to the pianist Benjamin Hochman, who occasionally performs with her. The two were soloists at the premiere of the Double Concerto for violin, piano and orchestra Opus 40 by Lera Auerbach with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra under Andrew Constantine on February 13, 2010.

Jennifer Koh currently lives in New York .
