Janet Sallah-Njie

Janet Ramatoulie Sallah-Njie is a Gambian lawyer and human rights activist.

Life

Sallah-Njie was admitted to the bar in 1989. Between 1998 and 2000 she was Solicitor General of the Gambia under President Yahya Jammeh . She worked for the Ministry of Justice until 2002 before opening her own law firm in 2003.

She was the first President of the Female Lawyers Association of The Gambia (FLAG) from its inception in early 2007 to October 2011. She was also Vice President of the Gambia Bar Association .

She chaired the Gambian section of the non-governmental organization ActionAid from at least November 2010 to July 2013. In July 2013 she was elected to the organization's international board.

From March 2012 to around October 2017 she headed the Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa (IHRDA), where she succeeded Amie Bensouda (2005 to 2012). She has been the board of the Gambia Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (GCCPC) since around 2014 .

Since 2018 she has been one of the eleven members of the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC), which is supposed to draft changes to the Gambian constitution . Her swearing-in ceremony took place on June 4, 2018.

In addition to these activities, Sallah-Njie advised the Gambia Girl Guides Association , the Gambian chapter of Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWEGAM) and the Francis DeGaulle Njie Foundation . She runs her law firm Torodo Chambers , based in Kotu .

She is married and has four children.
