The Grammy Award for Best Country Song , in German "Grammy Award for the Best Country Song", sometimes also referred to as the "Country Songwriters Award", is a music prize that has been awarded by the Recording Academy in Los Angeles since 1965 . The award songwriter for high quality songs from the field of country music .

History and background

Since 1959, the Grammy Awards are presented annually in numerous categories by the Recording Academy in the United States to recognize artistic achievement, technical competence, and overall excellence regardless of album sales or chart position. One of these categories is the Grammy Award for Best Country Song , which has been presented since 1965 .

The award is given to the lyricist and not to the interpreter of the song, unless the performer is also the lyricist.

The name of the award has been changed several times:

  • From 1965 to 1968 the award was called Best Country & Western Song
  • From 1969 to 1983 the name of the award was Best Country Song
  • 1984 was known as Best New Country Song award
  • Since 1985 it has been awarded again as Best Country Song .

The Grammy Awards are presented annually for works published in the previous year.
