Rhett Akins
Rhett Akins (born October 13, 1969 in Valdosta , Georgia ) is an American country singer and songwriter. His biggest chart hits were That Ain't My Truck and Don't Get Me Started , his only number one singer.
Life
At the age of eleven, Rhett had his own band. In 1992 he moved to Nashville to try his luck as a country singer. He quickly got a record deal with Decca after sending some demo tapes to major labels . In 1995 his debut album A Thousand Memories was released , stylistically following the neo-traditionalists . Two titles, What They're Talkin 'About and I Brake for Brunettes , made it into the top 40, but That Ain't My Truck was the first to break through. In 1996, Don't Get Me Started followed , a number one hit on the country charts. This title came from his second album Somebody New .
In 1998 the CD What Livin's All About was released , which only reached the top 40. It contains, among other things, the single Better Than It Used To Be, which has been successful in line dance clubs . In 2002 he reported back with his fourth album Friday Night In Dixie , which was held in the southern rock sound. Although he could no longer build on his previous successes, many radio stations remained loyal to him. With his fifth album, People Like Me , he sparked heated debates in advance. The decoupled single with the telling name Kiss My Country Ass was rejected by many radio stations.
After his solo career lost its momentum, Akins focused on writing for other artists. Many big names in the country scene recorded his songs and landed hits with them, including Brooks & Dunn , Luke Bryan , Josh Turner , Chris Young , Tim McGraw and Blake Shelton .
Akins is the father of Thomas Rhett , who has surpassed his father's success since 2012, at least as a singer.
