Josh Turner
Joshua Otis "Josh" Turner (born November 20, 1977 in Hannah , South Carolina ) is an American country singer . He had four number one hits on the country charts by 2010 .
Career
Josh Turner grew up in rural South Carolina in the southern United States and sang in the church choir of the Union Baptist Church as a child. His grandmother introduced him to country music , from the Southern Gospel Quartet to Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings to bluegrass musicians like The Stanley Brothers . He later sang in a South Carolina gospel quartet called Thankful Hearts. After graduating from high school, he attended Belmont University near Nashville , which has one of its majors in musical education.
In 2001 Turner was allowed to appear in the Grand Ole Opry with his song Long Black Train . In 2003 he received a recording contract with MCA Nashville and released the song and the album of the same name. The latter reached number 3 in the country album charts, stayed there for a total of 75 weeks and sold a million copies in just under a year.
With his second album Your Man , Turner was able to build on this success in 2006. It reached number 1 on the country charts and number 2 on the Billboard 200. The singles Your Man and Would You Go with Me reached number 1 in the Hot Country Songs . After six months, a million albums had been sold; another six months later it had reached double platinum . The two singles were awarded gold like his debut single Long Black Train . He was nominated for two awards at the 2007 Grammy Awards .
After this great success, the third album Everything Is Fine was released in autumn 2007 . But despite high placements, it fell short of the success of its predecessors overall. The first single from the album, Firecracker , reached number 2, the second, entitled Another Try , a duet with Trisha Yearwood , reached number 15 on the country charts.
