Sam Lawry Hunt (born December 8, 1984 in Cedartown, Georgia ) is an American country singer and songwriter .

biography

During his school and college years, Sam Hunt was a successful American football player and played as a quarterback for Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham . After completing his training, he decided against a possible sports career and instead turned to music.

Hunt went to the country stronghold of Nashville , where he quickly got a contract as a songwriter. It took some time to see success, then his songs were recorded by stars like Billy Currington , Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney , whose country number one hit Come Over he was involved in.

In his late twenties he took steps towards his own music career and in 2013 he released his first single Raised on It , which even made it into the lower ranks of the country charts. A demo album called Between the Pines a little later brought him a recording deal with MCA Records . He had his breakthrough with one of his first releases in the summer of 2014 with the song Leave the Night On . The song reached the top of the country charts and came in at number 30 in the official singles charts . It was also awarded double platinum . An EP called X2C brought further success in the country charts and came in at number 36 in the album charts .

With the material already available, Sam Hunt put together his debut album entitled Montevallo , which was released in early November of the same year. It also rose to number 1 on the country charts and reached number 3 on the official charts.

His song "Take your Time" was also number one on the country charts (which he held for eleven weeks), as well as number 20 on the general music charts and reached number one in the 2015 country charts the title was internationally successful and entered the charts in Italy and the Netherlands, among others.

In April 2017 he entered the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time with the song Body Like a Back Road .
