Bruce McLean

Bruce McLean (born November 6, 1944 in Glasgow , Scotland ) is a British sculptor , painter and performance artist .

Life

McLean was born in Glasgow and attended the Glasgow School of Art from 1961 to 1963 . From 1963 to 1966 he studied at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London with Phillip King and Anthony Caro . Mclean lives and works in London. As a professor he taught at the Croydon School of Art and from 1985 at the Slade School of Fine Art . In 1999 he taught as a visiting professor at the State University of Fine Arts - Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam .

From the mid-1970s, while he continued to work as a performance artist, McLean turned increasingly to the means of expression painting, sculpture and video.

Pose Work for Plinths I (1971), Academic Board (1975), Sorry! A Minimal Musical in Parts (1977) and Fishknife (1979) are well-known performances by Bruce McLean.
