Billy Currington (born November 19, 1973 in Savannah , Georgia ; actually William Matthew Currington ) is an American country singer .

Career

Billy Currington grew up in Georgia. He made several attempts at a music career in the country capital Nashville . There he made a living as a construction worker and performed on the side. When Mark Wills discovered one of his songs, it finally led to a recording contract with Mercury Records and his debut album, which is named after him and was released in 2003.

The first album was still a respectable success with at least two country top 10 singles, but the big breakthrough came with album number 2 Doin 'Somethin' Right . Both the title track and the second release, Good Directions, brought him to the top of the country singles chart and placed 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The album itself reached number 2 in the country charts and number 11 in the sales charts and sold over a million times.

His third album Little Bit of Everything brought Currington in 2008 with People Are Crazy his biggest hit to date. The song became a million seller and its third country number one hit, and with number 27 it reached its highest ranking in the Hot 100. There were also two Grammy nominations. Despite a second number one hit, That's How Country Boys Roll , the album overall lagged slightly behind the success of the previous album and only reached gold in 2010 for 500,000 copies sold.

That was half a year before album number four, Enjoy Yourself, was released . This was the first time he was in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 . The first single from it, Pretty Good at Drinkin 'Beer, was its fifth place at the top of the country charts.
