Shelly West (born May 23, 1958 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is a country singer and the daughter of Dottie West .

West started singing as a backing singer in her mother's band when she was 17. In 1977 she married the band's guitarist, Alan Frizzell, a younger brother of country legend Lefty Frizzell . Soon afterwards she started a career as a country duo with her brother-in-law David Frizzell , another Frizzell brother.

Their second single You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma made it to the top of the country charts in 1981. A few more moderately successful singles followed until the duo separated in 1985. Almost at the same time, her marriage to Alan Frizzell fell apart. Shelly West had another big hit as a solo artist: José Cuervo . After that there were some fairly successful songs. At the end of the 80s, her career as a country singer was over for good.
