David Frizzell

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Frizzell (born September 26, 1941 in El Dorado , Arkansas ) is an American country singer. His biggest hit is I'm Gonna Hire a Wino to Decorate Our Home from 1982.

Life

David hitchhiked to California at the age of twelve to play in his famous brother Lefty Frizzell's band . In 1958 he received his first record deal through his brother.

For many years he made more or less unsuccessful records. He changed label and place of residence frequently, joined the US Air Force for a short time and was a club owner. In 1981 he recorded some songs with Shelly West , who was married to his younger brother Allen, including You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma .

The song was initially rejected by various record companies, but then appeared in a Clint Eastwood film and subsequently became a hit. In the same year Shelly and David's interpretation was named "Vocal Duet of the Year" by both the CMA and the ACM . The duo had two other hits with Another Honky Tonk Night on Broadway and I Just Came Here to Dance . Their last hit together was It's a Be Together Night ; after 1984 they went their separate ways.

Career

Frizzell had a number 1 hit in 1982 with I'm Gonna Hire a Wino to Decorate Our Home and a year later with Lost My Baby Blues a top 10 ranking. In 1984 his short streak of success came to an end with A Million Light Beers Ago . The following years brought again only failures. In 2001, after a more than ten year break from recording, he produced the album 2001 .

David Frizzell never managed to step out of the shadow of his overpowering brother. He's been in business for over fifty years, few of which have been good. But he always remained connected to country music, even if it was often only enough to perform in Las Vegas or on cruise ships .
