El Dorado is a city in Union County in the US state of Arkansas with around 18,500 inhabitants (as of 2013) and the seat of the county administration. In 2010 the population was 18,884, which means a population decrease of 2.1%.
El Dorado is the seat of the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission, as well as Murphy Oil Corporation and its former downstream division Murphy USA , the Deltic Timber Corporation and the Lion Oil Company. The city includes a community college , the South Arkansas Community College (SouthArk) and a multicultural arts center, the South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC). El Dorado is also known as part of the socio-economic region of Ark-La-Tex .

Culture
Theaters and concert halls
Founded in 1956, the South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest in Arkansas. It is chaired by Scott Watkins and is currently directed by Kermit Poling. Before that, Dr. Eloy Fominaya, Dr. Joe Barry Mullins, Jimmie Reynolds, Gerald Kiger, Richard Oliver and Dr. Richard Worthington entrusted with the management. All performances are broadcast on Red River Radio, with some nationwide broadcasts by A&E Television Networks .
The Rialto Theater Music Hall is a classical building opened in 1929 . It was renovated in 1980 and reopened in 1987. It has space for 1,400 spectators. The Rialto Theater Music Hall has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1986 .
Sports
The El Dorado Golf and Country Club is a private golf course that opened in 1925. Herman Hackbarth designed the 18-hole golf course. The El Dorado Racquet Club is also a privately operated sports facility. The club offers tennis , swimming and fitness facilities.
The El Dorado Memorial Stadium is an American football stadium built in 1948 . It has a capacity of 6,000 and serves as the venue for the home games of the El Dorado Wildcats. It was christened Memorial Stadium in memory of soldiers who died in World War II .

El Dorado has one public radio station and seven private radio stations owned by Noalmark Broadcasting Corporation and El Dorado Broadcasting. The radio stations KLBQ ( Country ) and KDMS ( Gospel ) belong to El Dorado Broadcasting, while KIXB (Country), KMRX ( Adult Contemporary ), KAGL ( Classic Rock ), KELD ( Sport ), KELD-FM ( Talkradio ) and KMLK ( Urban Adult Contemporary ) are attributable to Noalmark Broadcasting Corporation. The public radio station is KBSA, affiliated with Louisiana State University in Shreveport .
El Dorado News Times is the regional daily newspaper El Dorados. It contains local news, a sports section, information on community events and job offers. The newspaper is published by WEHCO Media.
