Bobby Goldsboro (born January 18, 1941 in Marianna , Florida ) is an American musician and record producer .

Career

In the early 1960s, Goldsboro was a member of the band Webbs while studying in Alabama. Roy Orbison discovered the formation and hired them shortly afterwards as a backing band. Goldsboro was guitarist and songwriter for Orbison for two years. In the fall of 1962, he recorded his first solo single , You Better Go Home , on Laurie Records . However, success was only achieved with their successor Molly , who reached number 70 in the US charts.

In January 1963, the first single, which Goldsboro recorded for United Artists , hit the charts and See the Funny Little Clown reached number 9. Then Orbison advised him to pursue a solo career. He played in the opening act for the Rolling Stones and had other hits in the US charts, such as B. 1965 Little Things , which came to number 13, in the same year Voodoo Woman , number 27. In 1966, two more Top 40 hits followed, It's Too Late and Blue Autumn .

At a time when British bands like The Beatles or The Rolling Stones were also enjoying great success in the USA (see British Invasion ), Goldsboro remained true to the gentle ballad. In 1968 he had his biggest hit with Honey - written by Bobby Russell and originally recorded by former Kingston Trio member Bob Shane . The song about the death of a young bride was not only in first place on the US charts for five weeks , but narrowly missed the top position of the UK charts twice in 1968 and after a re-release in 1975.

From 1968 to 1973, four more of his songs reached the US Top 40, Autumn of My Life , The Straight Life , Watching Scotty Grow and Summer (The First Time) . This title came into the US charts at number 21 and was his last Top 40 song in the United States, the United Kingdom the title made it into the Top 10. His last hit landed Goldsboro in 1974 with that of Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway written Song Hello Summertime , which reached number 14 again in the UK.

As a songwriter he wrote pieces for Aretha Franklin , John Denver , Paul Anka , Dolly Parton and Bette Midler, among others . Goldsboro has a total of 26 hits in the US Billboard charts and 12 in the country charts.

After Goldsboro successfully hosted and produced his own show from 1972 to 1975, he founded House of Gold Music in 1973 in Nashville . He has been publishing children's books and producing television for children for Disney Channel and PBS since the 1990s .
