Jeff Carson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jeff Carson (born December 16, 1963 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ) is an American country singer.

Beginnings

Jeff Carson taught himself to play the accordion and guitar when he was twelve. After finishing second in a talent competition at his school, he decided to become a musician. He gave up his original career aspiration as a police officer (but he always remained connected to the police). The entry into the professional scene succeeded in another talent competition after leaving school. Although he couldn't win again, his appearance earned him a place in the house band of a club in Rogers, Arkansas . There he played as a bass player for four years. He then moved to Branson , Missouri , where he joined various bands and started writing songs. He married and moved to Nashville in 1989 .

Career

An acquaintance of his wife found him a place as bassist in the band Texana, which was under contract with the Opryland Hotel. After a year he managed to get a job as a soloist in the same hotel. In addition to his appearances, he tried his hand at writing songs. He got a contract with a local music publisher, where he mainly recorded demos. For several years he was one of the most sought-after demo singers in Nashville.

In 1994, Jeff Carson signed a record deal with the independent Curb label. The single Not On Your Love , taken from his 1995 debut album, reached number one on the country charts, the next song, The Car , number three. The video for this was voted "Video of the Year" by the Academy of Country Music . However, these initial successes could not be repeated. In the next few years he rarely got beyond lower chart positions. The reason for this was the low presence of his songs on country radio. In 2001, after a long dry spell, he had enough songs he had composed to persuade his record company to produce a new album. With Real Life he was able to build on the old successes.

Jeff Carson was also active outside the music scene. In 2001 he became the spokesman for the National Association of Slain Officers , a non-profit organization that services relatives in the service of murdered police officers.
