Terri Gibbs
Terri Gibbs (* 15. June 1954 as Teresa Fay Gibbs in Miami , Florida ) is an American country - and gospel singer .
Beginnings
By a retinopathy of prematurity blind Terri Gibbs learned at the age of three years playing the piano. Influenced by her parents, she initially dealt with gospel music. She later became enthusiastic about country . Her role models included Elvis Presley and Ray Charles . After winning several talent competitions, she made her first attempt to gain a foothold in Nashville in 1972 after a chance encounter with Chet Atkins .
Terri returned to Florida empty-handed in 1974, where she joined the group Sound Dimension . She dropped out of college after a few months. In 1975 she founded her own band, which was permanently engaged in a restaurant until 1980.
Career
In 1980 a demo came into the hands of producer Ed Penney, who signed her to the MCA label that same year. A little later, their first album Somebody's Knockin 'was released . The title song, which she composed herself, was placed in the country's top 10 and received a Grammy nomination. The Academy of Country Music chose her as the best young singer of the year. Her next singles were also successful. In 1981 she first appeared in the Grand Ole Opry . She received the Horizon Award from the renowned Country Music Association , which annually honors the most promising talent.
After the good start, Gibbs was only able to maintain its position for a few years. In 1982 some fairly successful albums and singles were released. She went on an extensive tour with the country legend George Jones and played a few duets. In 1985 she moved to Warner Brothers, but could only place in the lower ranks of the top 100. A year later it returned to its origins, gospel music. Her singles produced on the Word Records label made it into the Christian charts several times. In 1988 she married and a year later her son was born. Terri Gibbs then retired from the music business to devote herself to her family.
