Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo , in German "Grammy Award for the Best Classical Instrumental Solo", is a music prize that has been awarded since 2012 by the Recording Academy in Los Angeles . The prize is awarded to the instrumental soloist and, if applicable, the conductor.

History and background

Since 1959, the Grammy Awards are presented annually in numerous categories by the Recording Academy in the United States to recognize artistic achievement, technical competence, and overall excellence regardless of album sales or chart position. One of these categories is the Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo. It was first awarded during the 2012 annual Grammy Awards ceremony.

The award combines the previous categories of Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Solist (s) Performance (with orchestra) and Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Solist Performance (without orchestra) . The reorganization of these categories resulted from the Recording Academy's desire to reduce the number of awards.
