Martin Pearlman (born May 21, 1945 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American harpsichordist , composer and conductor .

Life

In 1973 he founded the now in Boston Baroque renamed ensemble Banchetto Musicale , the first permanent Baroque - Orchestra of North America , which he continues to protrude as music director. Pearlman was the first early music conductor to perform live at the Grammy Awards .

As a conductor he also worked with various orchestras outside of baroque music and made numerous CD recordings. He conducted a rare recording of the now little-known Singspiel The Benevolent Dervish by musicians from Mozart's circle.

In 1972 he received the Erwin Bodky Award for Early Music.
