Grammy Award for Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano)

The Grammy Award for Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano) is a music award that has been presented at the annual Grammy Awards since 2012 . The awards were given to albums from regional Mexican music styles as well as from the Tejano area .

Background and story

The Grammy Awards (actually Grammophone Awards), which have been presented since 1958, are presented annually in numerous categories by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) in the United States of America for artistic achievement, technical competence and excellent overall performance regardless of the album - Honor sales or chart position. The prize was awarded for high-quality vocal and instrumental albums from regional Mexican music styles as well as from the Tejano area .

The award was introduced as the Best Regional Mexican or Tejano Album in 2012 as a new category following a restructuring of the existing Grammy categories to reduce the number of awards given. The previously independent categories Best Regional Mexican Album and Best Tejano Album were combined, this was justified by the often blurred delineation between Mexican styles. In the following year, the restructuring was continued and this category was combined with the Grammy Award for Best Banda or Norteño Album, which was also only merged in 2012, into the new category Grammy Award for Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano). Since then, this award has been given to albums that contain new vocal and instrumental music from the area of ​​regional Mexican music ( Banda , Norteño , Corridos , Gruperos , Mariachi , Ranchera and Tejano) for at least 51% of the season .
