Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album
The Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album , in German "Grammy Award for the best jazz vocal album ", is a music prize that has been awarded by the Recording Academy in Los Angeles since 1977 . The award goes to artists for new outstanding albums in the field of jazz singing .
History and background
Since 1959, the Grammy Awards are presented annually in numerous categories by the Recording Academy in the United States to recognize artistic achievement, technical competence, and overall excellence regardless of album sales or chart position. One of these categories is the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album , which has been awarded since 1977 .
As with numerous other price categories, there have been minor adjustments to the price designation and changes to the awarding of prices over the years:
- From 1977 to 1980, 1985 and from 1992 to 2001 the award was named Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance .
- From 1981 to 1984 and 1986 to 1991, the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Female and the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Male were each given separate prizes for jazz singers.
- Since 2002 the award has been called the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
The Grammy Awards are presented annually for works published in the previous year.
