Sara Gazarek
Sara Gazarek (born February 26, 1982 in Seattle , Washington ) is an American jazz singer . The critic Don Heckman of the Los Angeles Times considers them "the next important jazz singer."
Live and act
Gazarek first discovered jazz at Roosevelt High School in Seattle . While still at school, she received the Ella Fitzgerald Foundation Outstanding Jazz Vocalist Award . In 2000 she moved to Los Angeles , where she attended the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California . In 2003 she won the Downbeat Student Music Award for best singer on the college scene. As part of the Concord Jazz Festival on Tour , she performed across the US with Oleta Adams , Karrin Allyson and Diane Schuur .
Produced by John Clayton , Gazarek released her debut album, Yours, in 2005 . This received good reviews and reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Traditional Jazz Charts ; in France and Germany it was the top album download on iTunes in the jazz segment . The readers of JazzTimes voted her among the best young jazz musicians. Her second studio album, Return To You , was released in 2007. She also recorded with the German band Triosence ( Where Time Stands Still ). She also performs as a duo with her pianist Josh Nelson .
Gazarek lives and works in Los Angeles. She has been teaching at the University of Southern California since 2014.
