The Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance, Male or Female , in German "Grammy Award for the best male or female soul gospel performance", is a music prize awarded in 1990 by the American Recording Academy in the field of gospel music .

History and background

Since 1959, the Grammy Awards are presented annually in numerous categories by the Recording Academy in the United States to recognize artistic achievement, technical competence, and overall outstanding performance regardless of album sales or chart position.

One of these categories was the Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance, Male or Female. The award was only given in 1990 at the 32nd Grammy Awards ceremony and went to Al Green for his song As Long as We're Together . In previous years there were two Grammy categories from 1984 onwards, the Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance, Female and the Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance, Male . In 1991 there was a further restructuring in the field of gospel music. From then until 2011, the categories Grammy Award for Best Pop / Contemporary Gospel Album and Grammy Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album were awarded.
